Friday Favourites - March 7, 2014

Another week has passed and winter shows no signs of abating. I know I'm getting cranky and winey and I'm sorry. I need green – hell today I'd be happy enough with the mud that is ever present in our yard come spring.

While we wait for our seeds to arrive I've been looking back over photos of our gardens and how they've grown in our years here. This is going to be a big year and I'm really excited. I'm sure that excitement is what's keeping me going as I spend another day looking out over endless snow.

Come on spring!

Here's a favourite picture from our garden a few years ago, and a quote that speaks to my feelings about winter. (Although it's not my perseverance I'm thinking of!)

Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.

Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.

Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.

Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.”

~Yoko Ono

I spent the week stressed out over whether or not I was going to join B-School and when I'm stressed I tend to spend too much time online. As a result I've got lots of good stuff for you this week.

~~~~~
It's been a while since I shared COVET GARDEN with you.
~~~~~

Something for my fellow DOG LOVERS.

~~~~~
And an amazing DOG STORY.
~~~~~

Got one minute? THIS is freaking cool!

~~~~~
Oh PURPLE ONE, how I love thee.
~~~~~

HERE'S a wee bit of inspiration for you if you're trying to get better at something (and aren't we all?)

My current favourite song seems to be taking over the air waves and the internet. Here's a little Happy for you.....

Have a great weekend everyone - see you soon! 8-)

Living the Good Life

What does it mean to me to live a good life?

I've been actively asking and answering some version of this question for as long as I can remember.

The answer has certainly changed through the years. When I was a young woman I would have answered working hard and playing hard; or I would have said being healthy and working out made a good life. When my boys came along I would have answered being present with them as they grew. As they grew it became about getting the house and the car and all the “right” things.

Each time I watch THE VIDEO I'm amazed at all the different answers. I'm inspired by the differences in us and I'm reminded that there are as many different paths to a good life as there are people looking for one.

Now when I ask myself what it means to me to live a good life the answer feels simple. It means being true to who I know myself to be. It means living with intention. It means living in congruence with what's most important to me.

While the answer feels simple to me, I know it's not always simple or easy to live a good life. It takes work. It takes desire. It takes knowing what we need and want. And it takes courage - Some days it takes a lot of courage. But is it worth it?

I'm sitting in my old log house with no neighbours in sight, my wood stove is keeping me warm, my dogs are outside chasing the wild turkeys and my afternoon will be spent designing my vegetable gardens and working on my soon to be website – so all I can say is a resounding YES; it is definitely worth it!!

Can I ask you a question?

What does living a good life mean to you?

Watch this 4 MINUTE VIDEO and give yourself a moment or two and then answer the question for yourself.

It's simple really - or at least it should be.

I'll be talking about what living a good life means to me here tomorrow. In the mean time why not tell me what it means to you.

Friday Favourites - Feb 28, 2014

It's good to be back. I missed last Friday because we lost one of our cats. Last Thursday evening Optimus wasn't home for dinner and even though Jon always tells me not to worry, I was worried. I had a bad feeling that I couldn't shake and sure enough Jon found our wee girl Friday morning. We figure Astro got her - which made me so mad at Astro I couldn't even look at her. We knew it was a possibility because the dogs have never seen cats before, but that didn't make it any easier. I had apparently grown quite attached to Optimus, so loosing her was hard.

To drag myself out of my funk I've been planning our garden and looking through some of last summers flower photos. I love daisies, they're so cheerful and happy all the time - I guess that's why I'm drawn to this photo.

I can't even express how much I need some green in my life right now. I know spring is coming because it always does; but I need it to come just a wee bit faster!

Lots of goodies this week....

Let's start with a dose of CUTE.

~~~~~
And move on to HEART WARMING.
~~~~~

And now a SAFETY video with a great way to encourage our young drivers to remained focused.

~~~~~
I'm dreaming of a MODERN FARMHOUSE and I love love love number 5 especially!
~~~~~

I'm a simple woman with simple tastes; but if I wasn't, THESE would rock my socks (ok...my feet). I love the name of number 7, and I'd actually where number 5 - yes I really would!

~~~~~
And since I am actually a simple woman with simple tastes (who only dreams of red soles occasionally) THIS might actually be my dream home (with a bit more book space of course).
~~~~~

Speaking of books......check THESE out. I love number 19 so much I've been dreaming about it (no kidding!).

~~~~~
And one more in the reading theme. I love Nora Roberts; her books have long been some of my favourites. She writes HERE about a day in her life and I can admit to being very envious. There are only a few things that can occupy my time with few distractions - reading, writing and taking photos. If she were to add a few photo breaks in her day (and exchange the diet pepsi for tea) it would be the perfect day!
Have a great weekend! See you soon. :-)
